Monster Island, the Asylum’s 2019 mockbuster, came out around the same date as Godzilla King of the Monsters. The film is about the mysterious island where a monstrous creature resides, and in a sense the creature is the island itself.


The film follows only a few human characters. It keeps its A-listers together on one set (original post) in order to shoot their sequences during lunch. This helps keep costs down. The Asylum might not be as successful because it's a kaiju movie.
